Suburban. The east boundary of Forest Lake backs up to a 900+ acre parcel of undeveloped Biltmore Company land which slopes upward to the 3400' foot Busbee Mountain crest. Dedicated green space in Forest Lake further enhances a back-to nature feel for the community. Topography - hilly at an elevation of about 2000 to 2200 ft.

Forest Lake is a smaller subdivison which offers over 6 acres of green space/common ground. This includes a small park area at the entrance way, and a 1+ acres picnic area and scenic pond located towards the middle of the community. Both of the park areas of Forest Lake have small gazebos; beyond this, Forest Lake has no formal amenities.
